Comics Journals

Summer 2024

My mom, having read the featured short stories from this issue, said that I was in my “angsty 20s” comic-making era. Well, I am in my 20s. And I am certainly angsty. Actually, I think we all deserve a little self-serving angst now and then. It’s one step in a many part healing process, and such processes are never linear. So, whether you approach this issue in your angsty 20s, your angsty 10s, or even your angsty 50s, I hope you yourself can laugh, cry, and dream along with me.

  • An inner conversation about chronic pain and the fear of recovery.

  • A collection of 1-2 page autobiographical comics chronicling idle thoughts and everyday events.

  • A relatable 12-page autobiographical introspection on vulnerability.

  • A seven-page surrealist short story about walks by Lake Michigan.
